CAR SOUNDS is a free Android app that gives you engine audio from many sports and luxury cars. You pick a vehicle from a photo grid and play one of two clips: ignition or acceleration. For anyone curious what a Pagani Zonda F sounds like without standing next to one, this tool works as a practical sound reference.
The first thing I noticed after loading the app is that it does not dump everything into one endless playlist. The collection is grouped by manufacturer, so you can go straight to Audi, BMW, Ferrari, or less obvious brands like Pagani and Bugatti. With more than 200 clips spread across roughly 80 models, this is more of a free car engine sound library than a novelty toy. It also includes two separate audio files for each car—one for starting the engine, another for accelerating—which makes direct comparison surprisingly easy.
The interface follows one clear pattern. Tap any car photo, and you get two buttons on the next screen. The first plays the engine start, while the second plays the acceleration pass. I used this constantly to compare car engine sounds between the Lexus LFA and the McLaren P1, because both carry very different high-rev personalities. The lack of extra menus feels intentional; you are never more than two taps away from a sound.
Languages are another surprising part of the design. The platform is translated into 22 languages, including English, Japanese, Hindi, and Korean, so the browsing experience stays readable for a wide audience. From the menu you can also share the app directly if a friend wants to play the guessing game with you—a feature that only works if the other person has the same library.
Still, I would not call CAR SOUNDS a polished audio tool for audiophiles. The clips are short samples, not full rev cycles, and there is no loop button or scrub bar to isolate a certain part of the note. Volume levels also vary from car to car because the recordings come from different sources, so you will regularly adjust the phone volume. And the photo stays static while the audio plays, so do not expect a video-like experience.
