Lifestyle v4.1.22
Birthday Calendar & Events turns phone contacts into a birthday and anniversary reminder list, with gift notes, widget access, and chat shortcuts. It stores data locally and works offline, but may require background permission tweaks on some Android phones.
Birthday Calendar & Events is a focused birthday reminder app for Android that pulls phone contacts into a separate event list, tracks birthdays and anniversaries, and sends a notification on the day you choose. It's built for one problem: the panic after missing someone's milestone. That narrow focus is where it earns its keep.
For example, importing contacts takes one pass: the app reads the phone's address book and builds a list immediately. You can attach gift ideas behind each profile, so a thought you had in March isn't lost by December. I found the widget list useful on a small home screen. Tapping a name jumps straight to the chat action or the note field, and the built-in age calculator assumes you might not know someone's birth year.
Notification timing is the weak point. On Android, aggressive battery management on some brands like Xiaomi or Samsung can delay the exact birthday alarm unless you manually allow the app to run in the background, so a test reminder is worth doing before you rely on it. The developer claims high reliability, but this is as much about system settings as it is about the app. Everything is stored locally, which protects your data but leaves no cloud sync or multi-device calendar. If you switch phones, you'll need to back up and transfer the list yourself. The app needs contact read permission for one-tap import; without that permission, you can still type names manually.
People who manage a large circle of friends and relatives will get the most value. It replaces the separate chore of scrolling through contacts every month, and you can send birthday wishes via WhatsApp without leaving the profile screen. The greeting card workflow is faster than composing a fresh message each time. For people who live inside Google Calendar all day, though, this app shouldn't replace that calendar. It won't schedule meetings, send month-long agenda summaries, or show public holidays. You'd still want a full calendar tool for that.
Version 4.1.33 is the current reference build for this review. If you download an APK directly, check whether its package signature matches the developer's official release before installing. Modified APKs often exist for the premium unlock, but those builds can carry extra permissions that the original app doesn't need. I tested the age calculator with an unknown birth year and it worked, so the core logic in this version appears solid.
Does Birthday Calendar & Events work while the phone is offline?
Yes, Birthday Calendar & Events stores events on the device and can send reminders without an internet connection. This makes it usable on airplane mode as long as notifications aren't disabled by the system.
Can this birthday reminder app import contacts from Google?
It reads the local address book, which usually includes contacts synced from Google. It doesn't connect directly to your Google account or pull in Google-specific groups, so a contact stored only in a Google web account won't show up until that contact is also on the phone.
Why use this app instead of Google Calendar's birthday reminders?
Google Calendar can show birthdays, but it doesn't remember gift ideas or give you one-tap chat actions. If those matter, the app adds something your calendar won't. If you only need a notification, your existing calendar is enough.
Is the free version enough for reminders?
Yes, the core reminder function is free. The paid unlock adds Excel import and a wider greeting card library, but you don't need it if your list stays inside your phone contacts.
