If you're in Europe or Asia, you mostly get the basic dialer, spam filter, and manual call screening. Second, call recording isn't available on every phone running the app; it's only on devices where Google Phone came preinstalled. Third, the app relies on Google Play Services, so it won't work well on heavily de-Googled custom ROMs. For the average Android user running stock or near-stock firmware, it's solid—but don't expect everything advertised to work out of the box.
Installation is straightforward: grab it from the Play Store, set it as your default phone app in system settings, and grant permissions for calls and contacts. The interface is clean—favorites on the main tab, recent calls below, and a simple dark mode toggle in settings. I keep dark mode on 24/7 because it reduces eye strain and saves a sliver of battery on OLED screens. One tip: enable "Call Screen" in the phone settings under "Spam and Call Screen" and set it to automatically screen unknown callers. That cuts down interruptions significantly.
