Switching phones usually means accepting that your call history stays on the old device unless you rely on a carrier sync that rarely works across brands. Background Automation and Android's Tight Grip

This is where I hit a realistic snag. Setting the app to auto-backup every hour sounds great, but modern Android versions aggressively kill background processes to save battery. To make it reliable, you have to manually whitelist the app from your phone's battery optimization settings. Once that's done, the scheduled backups run fine, but it is an extra configuration step that isn't clearly spelled out during the initial setup. Export Formats and Data Portability Boundaries

The PDF export looks clean for submitting records to a manager or for legal documentation, but if you need proper analytics, the CSV option is the real workhorse. I noticed that Excel doesn't always parse the UTF-8 CSV output correctly by default — you must import it manually via Data > From Text/CSV to avoid garbled characters. The deduplication logic during restores is surprisingly thorough, though, comparing both numbers and timestamps rather than just skipping entries based on contact name alone. Having multiple export avenues means you aren't locked into one ecosystem.

Frankly, this tool isn't necessary for someone who clears their call log weekly. But for freelancers tracking billable calls, small business owners logging client communication, or anyone migrating between Android devices frequently, Call Log Backup and Restore delivers reliable functionality. Just be prepared to adjust your battery settings for automation and handle CSV imports manually if Excel complains about the formatting.
