Word v1.20.1

Top 7

Top 7 is a light offline word game for pass-and-play groups, where players name seven common answers to simple prompts. It features quick rounds, optional timer, hint coins, daily puzzles, and no account, while acknowledging limits like US-centric answers and no remote multiplayer.

About this app

Top 7 is a light Android word game built around a single question: name the seven things most people would say for a prompt like "something that flies." No account is needed, a round takes roughly two minutes, and it runs fine on one phone passed around a table.

What a Round Actually Looks Like

A prompt fills the screen and you type whatever comes to mind — kite, bat, drone, helicopter. The app checks the guess against a fixed list of seven answers and files it into a numbered slot once it fits. Phrasing matters more than it should: singular and plural forms get treated differently, and a sensible synonym can bounce while a clumsier word is accepted.

Land a correct answer and the slot flips open with a small chime. Miss too many times and the round ends early, which is the only real source of pressure in the whole loop. I leave the timer off when playing with kids and switch it on with adults, because the clock turns "let's think about it" into "say something, anything."

Where It Fits in a Real Evening

The setup is genuinely low-effort. No lobby, no friend list, no room code to share; the phone goes from pocket to playable in seconds, which matters when three cousins are bored in a restaurant. Road trips, waiting rooms, and the last half hour before guests leave are the moments where this offline party word game earns its place on my home screen.

Remote play is the weak spot. Everything happens on one device, so friends in another city cannot join a session unless you read prompts aloud over a call and pretend that is the same experience. Solo players get a daily puzzle, but that alone would not justify keeping it installed.

How Top 7 Handles Hints and Coins

Stuck on slot four, you can spend a coin to expose a letter or two. That is the entire hint system, and it is tuned well enough that a single hint rarely solves the puzzle for you.

Coins come from a daily claim plus a handful of rewarded video ads. The drip is slow if you play several rounds back to back, and those ad breaks interrupt group momentum far more than they would bother a solo player. I bank coins for later sessions instead of burning them in the first five minutes, which keeps a game night from stalling halfway through.

Friction Points Worth Knowing Before You Install

Answer lists lean American. References to older sitcoms, US sports franchises, and regional brands appear often enough that players outside that cultural bubble will blank on prompts they could otherwise handle. Two friends who grew up overseas noticed it inside a single evening.

Prompts repeat as well. After a few dozen rounds, familiar categories cycle back, and once you remember the seven answers the challenge disappears. The scoring has a related quirk: only entries matching the built-in list count, so an answer the entire room agrees on still registers as wrong if it was never part of the original top seven.

Ads sit between rounds rather than inside them, so they stay tolerable. Still, a long session with airplane mode on will eventually leave you without hints once the coin balance hits zero.

Performance, Storage, and Who Should Skip It

The install is small, battery drain is negligible, and I have run it on a mid-range phone and an aging tablet without stutter. Core play works offline, though coin rewards require a connection, which is the one compatibility limit worth planning around before a flight.

Skip it if you want online rooms, ranked ladders, or a structured vocabulary trainer; as a pass-and-play word game it depends entirely on who is in the room. Families, mixed-age groups, and anyone who enjoys quick guess-the-top-answers banter will get the most out of it. A Top 7 session costs nothing to start, and the first few rounds show you fairly quickly whether your group clicks with the format.
