About this app

Network Setup and Real-World Performance

NetPrinter solves a specific frustration: getting a document from your Android phone onto paper without emailing yourself or hunting for a USB cable. I installed it on a Pixel 7 and a Samsung Tab S6 Lite, both connected to a home Wi-Fi network with a Brother laser printer and an older HP inkjet. The app found both printers within seconds during initial scanning, which surprised me—I expected at least one manual IP entry. That said, the connection depends entirely on your local network stability. If your router is in another room or you have a mesh system with weak signal near the printer, the app will stall or fail to discover devices. It is not a flaw in the software itself, but a practical boundary that matters in daily use.

Supported File Types and Everyday Workflow

For someone who prints invoices, boarding passes, or PDF contracts on the go, the file support covers the essentials: PDF, JPEG, PNG, and basic text files. I tried printing a multi-page PDF with embedded images, and the output matched what I would expect from a desktop driver—margins were correct, text was crisp, and the page order stayed intact. One missing piece is direct Google Drive or Dropbox integration. You can still access those files through your phone's file manager and share them to NetPrinter, but it adds an extra tap that feels unnecessary in 2024. If you print from cloud storage multiple times a week, that extra step becomes a minor annoyance.

Limitations Worth Knowing

Color management is where this app shows its budget-friendly nature. When I printed a brochure with gradient backgrounds on the HP inkjet, the output had a slight yellow-green cast compared to the same file printed from a Windows laptop. Advanced users who need accurate color reproduction for photography proofs or branded materials will find this lacking. Also, the app does not support scanning from a multifunction printer—it remains purely a print sender, not a network scanner tool. For those who need both directions, a dedicated vendor app from HP or Brother might be a better fit, even if those apps are bloated. NetPrinter also does not remember custom paper sizes between sessions; if you regularly print on A5 labels or envelopes, you will need to reconfigure the paper dimensions each time.

Who Should Skip This Tool

People managing large print queues in a small office environment should look elsewhere. The app works well for one-off jobs, but lacks batch processing, duplex override settings, or secure print release. I tried sending five separate documents in a row and had to initiate each one manually—no queue management exists. This is clearly designed for personal or light home use, not for someone handling 20 print jobs before lunch. For students printing lecture notes or travelers printing itineraries, it is adequate and straightforward. Just keep expectations in check regarding advanced printer features that your hardware actually supports but this app cannot expose.
